Crazy Quilt Shoe

"I always go a little crazy when I travel."

She was modeling her recent purchases. All of them. It was fun to watch her dress; the more bits of clothing and jewelry she piled on, the better she looked. She pointed out details while I half-listened, envisioning what it would be like to reverse the process.

"Check out this antique wedding ring. I know it's broken, but I couldn't resist."

That got my full attention, because I most definitely could, and so far, had, resisted.

"Sayonara, Baby," I said, more than halfway out the door already. It's time for me to go. It's been fun, but I've got a flight to catch."

Crazy Quilt Shoe
Gicleé print, signed & matted — $75

Every shoe tells a story — This started out as a plain ol' crazy quilt, but took on this Asian flavor with the Sashiko piece (the pentagon on the side of the toe with white stitches running through it) and ikat lining. The heel has been "broken off" from a traditional Double Wedding Ring quilt pattern (picture it as arcs of two intersecting circles). The label says "shoes" in Japanese.
