Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe

"If only I'd "I don't know what to do," she said.

I looked around. All this time I'd been trying not to let her age bother me, but now I could see that was the least of our problems. There were so many other little things that would eventually come between us, and none of those could be put to bed easily. This might be the only chance we had to be alone together.

"I don't know what to do either," I said, "but I do know one thing: I wouldn't want to be in your shoes."

Every shoe tells a story — This piece was commissioned for The CW's The Carrie Diaries (prequel to Sex and the City). They wanted to show that Carrie Bradshaw had been obsessed with shoes her entire life, so we chose 3 childhood icons for the teenager's room: The Wizard of Oz's Dorothy, The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe, and Cinderella. Originally they were meant to decorate Carrie's bathroom, but when the art arrived on set it was promoted to her bedroom, where it was seen in nearly every episode.

"I'm proud to be represented in more downstairs powder rooms than any other living artist!"  — Claudia Lynch
