Tomato (Pomodoro) Shoe

Those stems of hers went all the way up, and kept right on going.


As you can imagine, that wasn't either of the first two things I noticed about her.


I'd only been in this country for a couple of days, but I could already see why pinching toma toes was the national pastime. I'd be heading home soon, so this was an opportunity with a short shelf life. "Can I get away with it?" I wondered. It wasn't something I was used to doing---not without getting my face slapped, anyway---but what the hell? When in Roma...

Every shoe tells a story — I love when part of the design would make the shoe impossible to wear, like that stem growing right up through the sole.


I created a trio of shoes for the Tomato Festival at Art + Invention in Nashville — this one, the Bloody Mary Shoe and the Salsa Shoe.
