Walking Away Shoe

“Don’t say it,” she sighed. “I’m such a cliché.”


She turned away, but even from this angle I could see how desperate things had become.

“You do seem little green around the gills,” I said, hoping a sillier one

would distract us both.

Eventually, we’d have to talk about all of it, but tonight, when neither of us was making any sense, it seemed wisest to just walk away.

Every shoe tells a story — Every once in a while, I ruin a painting in the typewriter. It happened with the first version of this one, and it was so depressing I put it away for several years before re-doing the art. This version is a lot better — I added the monkey on her back — and the story is better, too.


This was created for a show I curated at Ariodante Gallery in New Orleans called "The Art of the Cocktail".
