Tréo Shoe

I’d had a few pairs before, but never a treo.

The offer was on the table, and I’d be a fool not to grab it, but my excitement was tinged with unexpected nervousness. With a gallery of emotions all over the map, I felt lightheaded, like I was floating on the ceiling. Naturally, that made me wonder what it would be like to watch. This was no time for stage fright. “Count me in,” I said, pulling myself together. “After all, the best things in life are three.”

Every shoe tells a story — Irish ex-pats Pauline & Stephen Patterson own both Finn McCool's, hands-down the coolest, most comfortable neighborhood bar in New Orleans, and Tréo, a sleek, sexy cocktail-and-small-plates bar with an art gallery upstairs. The two could not be more different from one another. I made a shoe to represent each, both based on the same shoe (believe me, I kept not believing it either,  laying one drawing on top of the other over and over again during the whole process to re-confirm).

The name of the place is pronounced Tray-Oh, but I took a little license with the intentional typo.
